The filling: natural or organic cotton
We understand that a good night’s sleep is essential for your overall well-being. That’s why we use the finest materials to create your shikibuton mattress. Our mattresses are designed to distribute your body weight evenly, relieving pressure points and ensuring a restful sleep throughout the night.
All of our products are 100% authentic and handcrafted in Japan. Each mattress is carefully constructed with a combination of high-quality cotton. You can choose the filling of the shikibuton mattress:
- 100% natural, untreated, unbleached cotton of the highest quality from Mexico
- 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton from India
Natural cotton from Mexico
We highly recommend our natural cotton as it is the most authentic. As the cotton is unbleached, with lighter patterns such as Plain White, you may see some natural marbling of the cotton or flower casings.
Organic cotton from India
Our organic cotton is denser than our natural cotton and is a good choice for customers who have asthma, skin allergies and/or sensitivities. This filling is also a good choice when you are more environmentally conscious and if you like a firmer sleep support. We add an extra .5 – 1.5kg of organic cotton to every shikibuton order, depending on the size.
With either cotton choice, there are no added chemicals or pesticides. All of our cotton provides great support for sleeping and they are a healthy sleeping option.

I wanted to write to say how pleased we are with our futon. It arrived last Friday (very prompt given the shipping from Japan, we have waited far longer for things to arrive from the UK!) and we have slept better than we ever have since then. We have both spent periods of time in Japan over the last ten years or so, often staying in a traditional house in Tokyo, sleeping (very well) in a tatami room on futons. It’s that experience that we had hoped we could recreate at home. We bought tatami and fitted them to our bed frame, and the futon from you completed the plan. We’ve ordered our Futon this summer and got it in this magnificent Indigo Koi colour. That was the best purchase for our new home. We wanted to try something different and something non harmful for the Ecology.
After a long research we stopped onto Futonsfromjapan company and it was worth it. Support was amazing on every stage. It was delivered way faster than we expected (after it was prepared).
